Granada is a historical and legendary city where The
Alhambra, the most visited monument in Spain is located. Granada has long
enjoyed the privilege of witnessing major scientific and cultural developments
which have emerged in response to the city's location at a veritable cultural
crossroad, both as a key centre of medieval Islamic history and as the city that
provided the impetus for the discovery of America and indeed for the entire
Spanish Renaissance.
The University of Granada, founded in 1531 by the
Emperor Charles V of Germany and I of Spain, currently serves more than 60,000
registered full-time students. Apart from it's historical significance,
Granada, surrounded by the incomparable natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada
Mountains, is also attractive by it's proximity to the highest mountains
(above 3400 metres) in continental
Spain and to it's tropical coast and beaches,
privileged by sunny and warm weather all the year. There will be many
different opportunities to visit and get to know downtown Granada and many of
it's attractive natural surroundings.
