cohort study"

ISF Poster Award at ECCMID 2004
We are pleased to announce that DR Tom Sprong,
University Medical Centre St Radboud Nijmegen, Department of General Medicine, in recognition
of his excellent poster presentation at 14th ECCMID on the complement
activation during meningococcal disease. His data demonstrate that the
initial activation of the complement system during meningococcal infection
is highly correlated with disease severity and that complement activation
occurs via the alternative and lectin pathway, whereas classical pathway
engagement develops only after 24 hours.

Young Investigator in Sepsis Award
The ISF 2002 Young Investigator in Sepsis Award was made at the Joint ESCMID-ISF
session held at the ECCMID in Milan, Italy, April 22-24 2002, where the awardee, Dr Mihai Netea gave a
presentation on his work. The joint symposium took place on Friday,
